Rubikloud
Our Product Suite: Promotion Manager
How do we optimize mass promotions? How do we manage the customer lifecycle? How do we manage & display large data sets in a consumable and easy-to-understand way?
These are the types of problems I worked on at Rubikloud. As a Product Designer at Rubikloud, I worked on designing user flows, wireframes, mockups and high-fidelity prototypes for our entire product suite. I worked closely with PM and Engineering to validate our ideas with customers and make the changes our users wanted to see. Research was at the forefront of our decision-making process and I am proud to have revamped Rubiklouds research and testing process.
Process & involvement
At Rubikloud I would lead various initiatives and solve various problems; to develop a solution to a problem you first need to understand it. I love to start my design process with various design-thinking and workshopping activities to help define and uncover all core problems and issues. I would work with other designers, PM, engineers and when required our sales team as they usually had an ear to the floor with our customers. Once I mapped our and defined out a problem I would design low fidelity mockups in Miro or Balsamiq that would be tested internally or with selected customers.
After validation, I would create high-fidelity prototypes in Sketch/Figma. Getting interactive prototypes into the hands of users is an important step to confirm that earlier assumption(s) were correct. This is also the last line of defence before something goes into production so it’s extremely important to make sure that prototypes tell the full story.
Afterwards, the new functionality would be studied in fullstory and if the features use was negative, we would plan a resolution to fix/improve it.
Upgrading our product
The product was designed to be modular and configurable based on the requirements of the user - this complicates designs as you need to constantly think about unique flows that customers will apply and to make sure that the one defined system is able to adapt to any use case.
One of the big projects I was working on was the form to create promotions; leveraging ML and AI we were working on a system that took away all the grunt work from users. We had to test these concepts against a variety of customers to make sure our designs did not ruin the experience for anyone.
Rubikloud had a robust design system developed as well, to read about how I create/develop these systems, read this
Results
At Rubikloud we were able to build a product that increase promotion efficiency and helped users work faster and more accurately. What was once messy spreadsheets shared across emails became a tool for collaboration and was loved by our customers - I had a lot of fun developing out the future of the promotion manager framework and watching it grow.
At the end we were able to improve customer processes by cutting down task time in half, allowing users to spend more time ideating and less time working on mechanical tasks. This improved our customer product retention and made our customers excited for the product’s growth.
